12/52 B&W

One of my friends really liked the Batman and the HDR background shot I did, so he asked me if I’d do something similar with him.

We did to setups, one was for the HDR, the other was for a simple, black background shot. I used the same lighting setup for both. Two rimlights and an octobox boomed up above the camera, I just changed the backgrounds.

For the B&W shot I used the flashes set to less power than for the HDR, since I wanted a darker, shadowy feel to it. I set my rimlights (2 YongNuo 560 IIs) to 1/32 +0,5 power and the octobox with another YongNuo 560 II was at 1/4. I put gobos onto the rimlights to avoid lensflare.

The HDR shot had the rimlights set to 1/16 and the octobox to 1/2 power and I used a background I made some time ago. For the post processing I used Dynamic Photo HDR and GIMP.

Settings for both shots:
Exposure: 1/160 sec
Aperture: F8
ISO: 100
Focal length: 50mm
Camera: Canon 40D +50 F1.8
