13/52 Strongbow

This week I got bored of photographing people and went for a cider instead…

I began freezing some ice a day before the shoot and filled a transparent box with it, then placed the bottle of Strongbow cider into my ice makeshift ice bucket. I wanted to add a glow around the bottle so I placed a strobe under it, and added a second light as a fill to light up the sticker.

The strobe underneath was a YongNuo 560 II at 1/16th of power and I also gelled it with a full orange CT gel. Creating the fill light seemed a bit trickier, because I wanted to avoid harsh reflections on the glass surface, so I placed a gold reflector above the camera and bounced a second YongNuo 560 II from it, at 1/8th of power, with a same full orange CT gel (note: the gels are not really needed, since I turned the final shot into a B&W image, but if I was to keep it in color, it would have given the image a nice warm glow).

Settings for the shot:
Exposure: 1/160 sec
Aperture: F7.1
ISO: 100
Focal length: 50mm
Camera: Canon 40D + EF 50mm F1.8
