37/52 Night

I know it’s very late when I post this, but tomorrow I’ll head off to Germany and I won’t be able to post things for some time… On the other hand, I’ll hopefully have some interesting pictures from there.

SLR Lounge has a great series of articles called ‘Tuesdays with Lauri’, it’s done by (as you could guess by the title) Lauri Laukkanen, who is an awesome photographer and he shares some behind the scenes infos each week, from photoshop tricks to lighting through posts and also videos. This week he did a second world war themed shoot (see the post & images here: SLR Lounge) and one of the images really grabbed my attention and I decided to use the same lighting and the same pose as his, but with totally different clothing and post processing so the whole feeling of the image would change. You probably couldn’t tell there is a connection between the two… it’s more similar to my batman shot: Batman Returns.

So after all this decided I noticed a small problem: I have to sew my background. This was a big problem, since I haven’t used a sewing machine for years (but back then I could make a shirt!), but with the help of my sister I managed to do it.

The other problem was to find enough batteries for the speedlights, since I left 4 of my Eneloop rechargeable batteries in Lisbon and another 4 had no juice in them, but after 10 minutes of hunting I found some, then there where some issues with the triggers too, but that’s nothing new.

Lighting is pretty simple: two large softboxes as rimlights behind me and an octobox high camera left as the main light.

Settings for the shot:
Exposure: 1/160 sec
Aperture: F7.1
 ISO: 100
Focal length: 50mm
Camera: Canon 40D + EF 50mm F1.8
